Maria Sole Ferragamo: Designing Longevity

How Maria Sole turns offcuts into high fashion.

By Hannah Ashdown | March 15, 2026

Whilst in Milan, The Plum Edit team popped into Maria Sole Ferragamo’s SO-LE studio.

Founded by Ferragamo, SO-LE focuses on the idea of wearable architecture, with Ferragamo using offcuts of leather to create her signature sculptural jewellery pieces.

SO-LE began in 2017, when Ferragamo would repurpose the unused material from her family’s factory, and has since astronomically grown, with her work being featured in multiple publications and exhibitions. Followed by the opening of SO-LE’s first boutique in Milan.

The showroom sits in Piazza del Quadrilatero, in the heart of Milan’s fashion district, which blends historic Baroque architecture with contemporary and luxury fashion brands. Designed to encompass the personality of the brand, the showroom acts as an experiential space that uses organic and architectural shapes to mirror the design of the jewellery itself.

Ferragamo’s use of leather in her creations results in jewellery that appears voluminous and imposing, but is actually soft and weightless. Alongside the leather, Ferragamo uses brass remnants and gold-coated leather to mimic solid metal. Adding extra details and texture to the pieces without sacrificing SO-LE’s sustainable approach.

SO-LE wears its ‘Made In Italy’ badge with pride, with their ethos of sustainable production worn on their sleeve. The production of SO-LE pieces is kept in Tuscany, blending the artisanal process of creation with a modern vision.

Ferragamo continuously revisits and reinterprets her most famous silhouettes, using new finishes to create new pieces that seamlessly follow the brand’s identity, and are undeniably, SO-LE.

The versatility and tactile nature of the jewellery means that they are a great statement piece to have in your wardrobe, to either elevate a white tshirt outfit or to complete your full-glam look.

Maria Sole Ferragamo is challenging the industry to look closer at what we already have. In doing so, she is proving that sustainability and high-octane glamour can easily co-exist.
