These bookshops encourage you to slow down and take your time, offering a break from digital consumption.

Thomas Heneage

Based in the heart of Mayfair, Thomas Heneage specialises in art books and high-quality art literature. The floor to ceiling book shelves are filled with everything from catalogues to antique and rare books.

Maison Assouline

If classics and antiquities isn’t quite what you’re after, Maison Assouline is only a short walk away.

Maison Assouline books are beautifully crafted volumes that celebrate culture, art, travel, and style. Each book embodies the brand’s signature blend of luxury and intellect. The flagship London store houses their three main collections, as well as the Swans Bar.

Liberia

Tucked away down Hanbury Street, Liberia is an independent bookshop that sells contemporary titles in an architect-designed space.

The shop celebrates a tech-free browsing experience with titles organised by evocative themes rather than traditional genres.

Books for Cooks

This bookshops runs in a slightly different way than your usual. The best recipes from the cook books on sale are brought to life by co-owner Eric Treuillé.

Founded in 1983 by Heidi Lascelles, this bookshop was started with Heidi’s aim to stock as many different cookbooks as she could find, a truly unique spot in London.

These bookshops remind us that bookshops can be far more than commercial enterprises. They are environments where literature and design intersect, and offer a sense of craftsmanship and intellectual refuge, and in some cases, a tasty meal.
