Nordic Knots continues to provide us with design inspiration with their timeless Swedish designs. The brand focuses on its ethos of traditional Nordic approaches to functional design with a minimalist aesthetic.
The "Nordic" part of their name isn't just about geography; it's about the Scandinavian mindset of functionalism. Their rugs are designed with a "buy once, keep forever" mentality. By using high-quality natural fibers like wool and jute instead of synthetics, they ensure the products are biodegradable and capable of aging gracefully over decades rather than years.
The brand is almost synonymous with 100% New Zealand wool, chosen for its purity of colour, durability and ethical sourcing. Nordic Knots prioritises GoodWeave™ certification, which ensures that their high-quality materials are matched by fair labor practices in their weaving facilities in Bhadohi, India. Offering rugs that aren’t just beautiful, but ethically made.
In February, their newest collaboration was launched with Designer Andre Mellone, combining Bauhaus and Art Deco with nordic minimalist design.
Andre Mellone founded the design firm Studio Mellone in 2012, renowned for how they use Mellone’s architectural approach to combine mid-century with minimalist aesthetics.
There is a masculine tone to their interiors that Mellone designs, blending inspiration for Mellone’s Brazilian heritage with interesting textures and forms. The brand often designs commercial interiors, notably Thom Browne’s flagship Seoul store and the lobby at 50 Rockefeller Plaza in New York.

The collection centers on four key pieces, all hand-knotted wool rugs. Defined by bold silhouettes and rich, earthy textures. Mellone has designed these pieces, as less of a floor covering, and more of a statement - pulling the whole room together.
These rugs don’t just use colour, Mellone has designed them with a clever use of tactile depth and 3D sculpting to create shadows and texture. These details highlight the influence of the architectural precision of Mellone’s New York practice.
Normandie, with its Ochre shades and linear geometry takes inspiration from early 20th-century ocean liners. Indore further plays on this modernist aesthetic approach. With high contrast lines, this rug can easily anchor a large open space.
The organic design of Pond creates a sense of calm, with its design replicating the ripples of water. Dots also incorporates a sense of rhythm, this time through its dotted pattern which can easily add movement to any minimalist office.
Ultimately, the collaboration between Nordic Knots and Studio Mellone is a testament to the power of intentional design. They are future heirlooms - designed not just to decorate a floor, but to ground a home with a sense of history and quiet luxury. For those looking to invest in a space that feels both curated and comfortable, this collection offers the perfect foundation.
