A Moment with Emma Gold

30 Years of Creating the Impossible, Defining Modern Luxury, and the Art of the Unpretentious Welcome

By Hannah Ashdown | June 28, 2026

There is a distinct difference between hosting an event and creating an atmosphere that lingers in the memory long after the last candle has been blown out. Emma Gold, the visionary founder of GSP Events, has spent nearly three decades mastering the latter.

Starting her journey in the fast-paced world of MTV, Emma transitioned her sharp eye for production into the ultra-luxury event space in 1997. Since then, she has redefined what modern luxury means, shifting the focus from mere opulence to deep intentionality, discretion, and flawless execution. Whether orchestrating a lavish three-day destination weekend in the heart of Tuscany or pulling off the seemingly impossible at the base of the Pyramids, Emma’s philosophy remains beautifully grounded: luxury is found in how an experience makes you feel.

For this week’s Sunday Series, we sat down with the industry pioneer to talk about the evolution of GSP, the art of trusting your team, and how she curates the perfect, unpretentious Sunday at home.

Let’s get into it.

How did you find yourself in the events space? Tell us about the history behind GSP.

My career began in the media industry, working for MTV, where I was fortunate to travel extensively and be involved in the planning and delivery of a wide range of events. Through those experiences, I discovered that event production was where my true passion lay - the opportunity to bring people together and create memorable experiences was incredibly rewarding.

Recognising this passion, I founded GSP with a vision to deliver exceptional events that are both beautifully executed and highly personalised. Over the years, the business has evolved and grown, expanding from event production into luxury weddings, private celebrations, corporate events and charity galas. Today, GSP is known for creating bespoke experiences for luxury clients that combine creativity, meticulous planning and flawless execution, ensuring every event is as unique as the clients we work with.

You founded GSP Events nearly three decades ago. Looking back at the version of yourself who launched the company in 1997, what is the biggest piece of advice you would give her about navigating the luxury market?

I’d tell her not to chase luxury, define it. True luxury isn’t about excess; it’s about thoughtfulness, discretion, and exceptional attention to detail. I spent years learning that clients remember how you made them feel far more than how much you spent. I would also remind my younger self to trust her instincts. Some of our biggest successes came from having the confidence to say, ‘There’s a better way and it’s OK to say No’.

You’ve frequently mentioned that the GSP team feels like a tight-knit family. As a founder, how do you successfully cultivate a company culture that balances strict, high-stakes, perfectionism with warmth and genuine trust?

Trust and respect are everything and if you start with your team then this will only translate to your clients. We set incredibly high standards because our clients deserve them, but we also support each other through every challenge. Everyone on our team knows they’re respected, listened to, and trusted. That creates an environment where people take ownership, push themselves creatively and genuinely care about each other’s success. When people feel valued, they consistently deliver their very best work.

The event industry is notoriously fast-paced and unpredictable. How do you, as the leader, protect your own creative energy and avoid burnout when managing massive, complex productions?

I’ve learnt that protecting your energy isn’t a luxury, it’s part of the job. I surround myself with an exceptional team and trust them completely. I also make space to step away, even briefly, because creativity needs room to breathe. Travel, walking, time with family and simply disconnecting from my phone for an hour can completely reset my perspective. We take real pride and time in looking at the incredible talent in the industry, looking at the new and upcoming and always being open to new ideas, I think that is the only way you last to be open to fresh looks and ideas to ensure you are always keeping up with the latest trends or set the new trends!

From working at MTV early in your career to orchestrating a private event at the base of the Pyramids, you’re known for pushing boundaries. When a client comes to you with a seemingly impossible vision, what is your mental process for turning it into reality?

My first thought is never, “Can we do it?” It’s always, “How do we do it?” Every extraordinary event starts with a bold idea. We then break it down into manageable pieces, creative design, logistics, permissions, production, timing, and contingency planning. Once you’ve built the right team around the vision, the impossible often becomes entirely achievable. Some of our most memorable events started with someone saying, “This can’t be done.” And I don’t like ‘No” so I keep pushing if I believe in it and have been lucky to achieve the impossible many times, and this I believe is why we are still here 30 years later.

With the rise of massive three-day destination weekends, how do you ensure an event feels deeply authentic and respectful to its local environment rather than feeling like a temporary set?

The destination should never simply be a backdrop; it should become part of the story. We work closely with local artisans, chefs, musicians, and suppliers because authenticity can’t be imported. Whether we’re in the South of France, Tuscany or elsewhere, we want guests to feel they’ve experienced that place rather than a generic luxury event that could have happened anywhere in the world. Everything is about the attention to detail, which speaks volumes.

You’ve been a celebrated pioneer in this space for nearly 30 years and are still just as excited by new projects. What is the legacy you hope to leave behind in the luxury event industry, and what is still on your bucket list to create?

I hope people remember that we raised the standard, not just creatively but professionally. I want GSP to be known for integrity, innovation and extraordinary care for every client and every team member. As for my bucket list, there are always incredible destinations and ambitious concepts I’d love to explore, but more than anything, I still love creating events that make people stop, take a breath and simply say, “Wow.”

My job is to make people happy and this keeps me excited. I want to continue to break boundaries and do the impossible and set the standard.

Our clients and suppliers love working with us as we are good people that care and have a lot of respect, we are all about our service and I always want to be remembered that way, they were good people that cared.

As someone whose career is built around creating high-energy, unforgettable moments for others, what does a restorative, slow Sunday look like for you personally?

A slow Sunday is wonderfully simple. Family, a long walk and cooking. After spending so much of my professional life orchestrating every detail, I really appreciate moments where nothing is scheduled and everything unfolds naturally. We have an open house policy and food is always on the table and I just like to surround myself with the people I care for.

In a world that often demands perfection, especially in luxury events, how have you learned to embrace mistakes or unexpected pivots in your personal life?

Experience teaches you that perfection is often an illusion. The unexpected will always happen, in business and in life. What matters is how you respond. I’ve learnt to see challenges as opportunities to become more resilient, more creative and more compassionate. Often, what initially feels like a setback becomes the beginning of something even better. Learning is key to any situation and I embrace this and never take it for granted.

What is something small that never fails to bring a smile to your face, no matter how stressful or overwhelming your week has been?

Fresh flowers, candles in abundance and soft music. They instantly change the atmosphere of a room.

When you are hosting an intimate gathering for family or close friends at home, what is your go-to formula for setting the perfect mood?

It’s never about overcomplicating things. Candlelight, beautiful music, fresh flowers, delicious food served generously and making sure everyone feels completely relaxed. I am obsessed with tablescapes, and I love making my table feel soft and beautiful in a very unpretentious way. The best hosts aren’t the ones with the most elaborate tables, they’re the ones who make every guest feel genuinely welcome.

Building a business over three decades requires immense grit. What is a personal belief or philosophy you held in your twenties that you’ve completely let go of now?

I used to think I had to do everything myself to prove I was capable. Now I know that great businesses are built by great teams. Trusting people, delegating and empowering others doesn’t weaken your leadership, it strengthens it.

Is there a specific mentor, friend or family member who taught you your most valuable lesson about life?

My mum and dad! My dad was a complete workaholic and so generous to those he loved and my mum was the most glamourous lady alive and they knew how to throw the most epic parties and I know I am a blend of them both. Family has always reminded me that success means very little if you don’t have people to share it with. They’ve taught me that kindness, generosity and integrity are ultimately what people remember. Those values influence every aspect of my life and business.

Aside from designing spaces, what is a personal passion or hobby that feeds your soul and has absolutely nothing to do with your career?

I love travelling and exploring beautiful places, discovering local restaurants, wandering through markets and simply observing how different cultures celebrate life continually inspires me. It’s one of the few times I’m not thinking about production schedules!

Our homes are often our sanctuaries. What is your absolute favourite corner of your own home, and what specific sensory details make it feel like peace to you?

My kitchen is my haven and the heart of our home. I love just to sit and stare at the garden and hear the family around me, smell a good meal cooking and just be.

What is one spot in the South of France that you always recommend to your friends?

Saint-Paul-de-Vence. It has everything I love about the South of France and where I hope to retire in years to come. It’s timeless charm, wonderful art, exceptional food and an atmosphere that encourages you to slow down. You can spend hours wandering the cobbled streets, enjoying long lunches and taking in the incredible views. It captures the elegance and authenticity of the region perfectly and where my heart is.

It is this exact blend of high-stakes perfectionism and genuine warmth that sets Emma Gold apart in an industry that rarely slows down. Decades into a glittering career, her definition of success remains refreshingly centered on connection, be it the tight-knit family culture she has fostered within GSP, or the intimate, candlelit Sundays spent in her kitchen with loved ones.

As she continues to push boundaries and design the impossible, Emma reminds us that true elegance isn't manufactured; it is grown from integrity, and a passion for making people happy, and perhaps, a future afternoon spent wandering the timeless, cobbled streets of Saint-Paul-de-Vence.
