A Moment with Manuela Morgano

The resilience required to build a dream, the discipline of a morning meditation, and the quiet boundaries that protect personal energy.

For generations, the Morgano name has been synonymous with the pinnacle of Mediterranean luxury, cultivating spaces where natural beauty meets impeccable design. Today, that legacy evolves with Palazzo M Capri, a project that blends historic visual vernacular with a modern, deeply intentional philosophy of living.

In this week’s Sunday Series, we sat down with Manuela Morgano. From the sun-drenched architecture of Capri to the bustling streets of London, she shares how she seamlessly navigates her multi-hyphenate life as a high-level creative and a devoted mother.

Discover her blueprint for creating harmony through light and space, her curated approach to timeless capsule dressing, and why true luxury will always be rooted in legacy, family, and the art of slow living.

Growing up as part of the Morgano family legacy, you were raised in environments where high-end hospitality is an art form. What is the most profound lesson you absorbed about the psychology of a space, how light, layout, and hospitality can alter someone’s mood?

In the world of refined hospitality, the guest’s perception is shaped by the generosity of the spaces, the ability to interpret the architecture of the place, and the commitment to offering the highest level of service while respecting the surroundings natural environment. I have been lucky to have an exceptional mentor, my father Enrico Morgano, who remains my greatest inspiration and role model. Currently l am involved in the project of Palazzo M together with members of my family, Gianfranco, Nicole & Mario.

Capri possesses a very specific, historic visual vernacular, from the stark white stucco to the dramatic Mediterranean backdrop. How has the island’s unique architecture and slow, sun-drenched pace of living shaped your personal design blueprint?

Having had the privilege of growing up in Capri, l naturally developed an innate need for light, making it the central element around which l shape the design of the rooms and communal spaces. Light has always represented a sense of serenity and harmony for me.

At the same time, l am constantly drawn to the presence of water, which symbolises movement and vitality. I often recreate this feeling through carefully selected artworks that evoke fluidity and reflection, allowing the spaces to feel alive, dynamic and deeply connected to their surroundings.

Hotels are a masterclass in curated living. When you step into a beautifully realised property today, what are the subtle, quiet design details you notice that other might look right past?

What immediately captures my attention is the thoughtful selection of materials within the rooms, their commitment to sustainability and above all, the sense of space they offer. I strongly believe that we need generous, expansive rooms that allow guests to feel comfortable and truly experience a sense of ease and wellbeing.

What’s one experience you’ve had owning Palazzo M Capri that you will carry with you?

The experience from Palazzo M that l will always carry with me is that if you never give up, dreams can truly become reality but you must be prepared to fight for them.
People often see only the final result, without realising the immense effort, resilience and dedication behind every decision and every stage of the project. Working with my sister Nicole is a truly wonderful experience and an ongoing source of inspiration.

We love the concept of a beautifully curated capsule. Capri style is historically synonymous with an effortless, understated elegance. How do you translate that timeless, cinematic island aesthetic into a functional wardrobe for a fast-paced, multi-hyphenate life?

For me, the ideal style to embrace on the island is effortless and refined: linen dresses and traditional Capri sandals during the day, and colourful pieces in light silk for the evening. No logos are needed, the quality of the tailoring and the fabrics should speak for you. To complete the look, l would pair it with a coral jewel or a treasured family cameo, timeless pieces that carry both elegance and personal history.

What does your daily uniform look like when you need to pivot seamlessly from a high-level design meeting to an afternoon with your children?

My daily uniform for navigating between meetings and time with my children is often built around pieces by Emilia Wickstead, like silk shirts paired with skirts or trousers. I love combining structured silhouettes with a sense of ease and femininity. I always wear the watch my father gave me when l was 16, a piece that carries deep sentimental value, and a necklace engraved with the initials of my children Nicole Marie and Enrico. Together, these pieces ground me throughout the day, allowing me to move effortlessly between my professional responsibilities and my family life.

Given that hospitality is all about building a lasting legacy, does that same philosophy dictate how you approach fashion, art, and the pieces you choose to bring into your home?

I have always disliked the superfluous, as l believe it distracts us from what is truly essential. I am not a serial collector or accumulator, instead l prefer to choose pieces with meaning and permanence.

Whether it is a work of art, a piece of jewellery or an haute couture garment, l am drawn to objects that l can cherish for a lifetime and that, one day, l can pass on to my children. To me, true luxury lies not in abundance, but in legacy, craftsmanship and enduring emotional value.

How do you practice the art of slow living and protect your personal energy?

Our time on this earth is limited. You have to learn to say no and be intentional about sharing your time with people who truly share your values.

There is a distinct modern pressure to present an entirely seamless, perfectly aesthetic life, especially when your background is rooted in luxury. What is the beautiful reality of your morning routine? How do you cut through the domestic chaos of a household with kids to find your creative center for the day?

I begin each day with meditation, which helps me to create a sense of clarity and balance before the day unfolds. Then comes breakfast with my children, a special moment of connection, conversation, and a shared reflection. No matter how busy life becomes, I treasure that time together, as it sets the tone for the rest of the day and reminds me what matters most.

What are the specific textures, values, or rituals from your own childhood that you are most intentional about passing down to your own children?

I had a childhood filled with joy and happiness, surrounded by a wonderful family. One of the most important values l try to pass on to my children is that family is at the centre of everything. I encourage them to approach each day with honesty, sincerity, and kindness. I also teach them not to force anything in life. If something does not fit who they are, they should have the courage to change course.

If you could encapsulate your perfect afternoon, one that beautifully balances your aesthetic passions, your work, and your family into a single, slow-paced moment, what does that scene look like for you right now?

My perfect afternoon in Capri begins after l’ve finished my meetings and spent time greeting our regular guests. I then join my children for a walk to Tragara, to enjoy the view of the Faraglioni, one of the most enchanting and peaceful places and on the way we stop for an ice cream. It’s the balance between work, family, beauty and the slower rhythm of life that Capri offers so effortlessly.

For our readers, where would you recommend for a celebratory meal with your family in London? And where’s your favourite cocktail spot in Capri?

In London my favourite place for a family celebration is Oswald’s . As for my favourite spot to enjoy my favourite cocktail, Signature Palazzo Spritz, nothing compares to the terrace of the Il Campanile Suite where l can take in the breathtaking view of the sun setting over Capri’s Piazzetta. It is one of those rare moments of beauty and tranquillity that never loses its magic.

By stripping away the superfluous and focusing on what is truly essential, Manuela reminds us that luxury is not about abundance or chasing fleeting trends. Instead, it is found in the enduring value of craftsmanship, the fluidity of light and water, and the simple, sacred joy of an afternoon walk to Tragara with her children.

Ultimately, whether designing a world-class space or curating a life, her greatest masterpiece is a legacy built entirely on authenticity, intention, and love.
