From its roots in Taipei to establishing a vibrant global presence, Bluerider ART has spent over 13 years challenging the boundaries of contemporary art.
This week, we headed to Mayfair to chat with Elsa, the founder of the gallery, about all things intentional curation, international audiences, as well as their current exhibition, Willi Siber’s Dimension V - Baroque Nature.
Under Elsa’s leadership, Bluerider ART has grown from its Taiwanese roots into a formidable international force, establishing outposts in Shanghai, Los Angeles, and London. The gallery operates on a compelling dual philosophy: while one primary focus is dedicated to showcasing established European artists over the age of 50, it balances this by acting as a crucial springboard for undiscovered, emerging creators under 40 through unique anonymous open calls.
Setting up shop in Mayfair was a highly calculated move. Situated in an incredibly competitive square mile alongside some of the world's most elite institutions, Elsa views the UK capital as the ultimate litmus test. She notes that London audiences possess a deep, mature understanding of art history. To truly connect with them, a gallery must offer something exceptionally distinct, a challenge Bluerider ART has triumphantly met over its last two and a half years in the city.
A major highlight of our chat was the gallery's latest exhibition, a vibrant solo showcase by German master Willi Siber. Despite being over 75 years old, Siber possesses an extraordinary creative energy, producing an entire body of work for this exhibition in just two years.
According to Elsa, while many creators have brilliant ideas, only truly great artists possess the technical ability to transform those abstract concepts into physical art that deeply moves the viewer.
The momentum isn't slowing down. Following Siber's exhibition, Bluerider ART is preparing an ambitious show for the Frieze art season. The upcoming exhibition will introduce London to more than 15 breakthrough young artists selected anonymously from their recent open calls in Taiwan and China, offering a rare glimpse into the cultural perspectives and ideas driving the next generation of Asian contemporary art.
