I woke up in the city on New Year’s morning. After a beautiful breakfast and soaking in the city atmosphere, we suddenly found ourselves in the countryside, staying in a manor house dating back to the 18th century.
Of course, we had no idea that the next day would bring snow and an icy temperature of minus four degrees. Trying to make our way out of the village at 7 a.m. to get to my children’s tennis tournaments turned into a small adventure in itself, navigating frozen roads and unexpected conditions. Despite that, it turned out to be a lovely day.
I wanted to share a little more about the building we stayed in, as it truly left an impression on us. The house was filled with music, objects, and details from its original era, making every room feel as though you were stepping back in time. It was incredibly atmospheric and deeply moving, an experience that made the past feel vividly present.

Hawkstone Hall & Gardens is a magnificent Grade I-listed country house located in the heart of Shropshire. The house is a striking example of Georgian architecture, known for its symmetry, grand proportions, and refined elegance.
Following an extensive and sensitive restoration, Hawkstone Hall has been brought back to life as a luxury hotel and event destination, while carefully preserving its historical character. Today, the interiors retain a strong sense of the past, from period furnishings and classical artwork to atmospheric rooms that feel as though time has gently paused.
The surrounding Gardens are equally impressive, offering tranquil walks, mature trees, and sweeping views of the Shropshire countryside. The estate is especially atmospheric in winter, when mist, frost, or snow transform it into something almost cinematic.

Waking up to the familiar rhythm of London and, by nightfall, falling asleep in the stillness of the Shropshire countryside, made it feel like the day had gently carried us somewhere entirely different.
